Skating Costs
Skating (like most sports) is expensive. Costs at this level are big.... especially on a single income.
ICE SESSIONS
Member rates: $11.50/session
Drop-in rates: $14.50/session
Our weekly costs run approximately: $127/week. (We do our best to keep costs down)
TRAVEL TIME/COST
Gas (depending on the fluctuations): $2.17/gallon
Our costs per trip $35-40 x 2 days a week: $70-$80/week
Travel time to Detroit from Midland is 1 Hr 45 minutes each way.
COACHING FEES
Coaches vary in costs. I have two (3) pairs coaches, Craig Joeright (my pairs coach and free-style coach), Zuzanna Parchem and Gabe Woodruff. I also have a choreography, off-ice coaches, ballet instructors as well as coaches for spins and moves in the field.
Our monthly fees vary but run approximately $550+/month
SKATES
My very first pair of skates were used skates. When we purchased my second pair of skates, we only purchased the boots (to keep costs down) and transferred the blades from my used skates to those. My latest pair of skates cost $1,600.00+

SKATE SHARPENING
Skates generally should be sharpened every 40 hours of ice time (or as needed).

FOOD
Because of the long drive and hours on the road, We sometimes have to stop for dinner. We try to think ahead and stock up on healthy snacks while traveling.

COMPETITION COSTS
Competition costs vary. There are registration fees, practice ice fees, hotel costs, food, travel expenses, etc. Coaches fees - hotel, airlines, food expenses are the responsibility of the skaters as well.
